FRAMED AND CROSSBRACED
WOOD DOORS
Wood doors of this type has a frame as already described with
stiles and rails with the addition of vertical timbers called
muntins or of cross braces.
FRAMED AND CROSSBATTENED
WOOD DOORS
The frame of this door is much the same as already described,
the only difference being that the battens are arranged diagonally.
The option is both highly decorative and strong, with each of
the diagonal battens becoming an additional brace. If you are
looking for a door that is both strong and decorative one with
a Gothic feel this is a good one.
Fielded panel
A panel that has the central area stepped up from the sides so
that the center is at a higher level than the sides; also known
as a raised panel. A classical fielded panel is best defined as
a panel that is thicker in the middle than at the edges, so that
the middle area is like a plateau that sits above the general
surface. The edges of the panel are reduced in thickness so that
they fit into a circumscribing groove.
Four Panel Door
The special four panel wood doors is much the same as the simple
four panel door already described; the only real difference is
that all the specifications are considerably more generous. There
is a solid section bolection molding running through the thickness
of the door, and the section is tongued into the frame rather
than being nailed on. Although this detail might not seem special,
it makes for a door that is superior in both strength and design.
A door of this type is a joy to the eye and will last a lifetime.
