The hinged single door
 The most common type of door is the hinged single door. For interior applications, hinged single doors are used between rooms and on small - to medium-size closets. If you order prehung hinged doors, you must specify the hand or swing. This is the direction in which the door opens, a critical factor depending on the location of the door. Most exterior hinged single doors open into the interior (called in-swing doors), though out-swing versions are available, too.
A hinged single door is often too heavy to use in a very wide opening. A double door solves the problem by dividing the weight in two. When used for closets, hinged double doors permit full access to the closet's interior. Double French doors are often used between a living room and a dining room. They serve as an elegant screen that distributes light between adjacent rooms.
